Café del Sol – French & Italian Restaurant in Mae Haad, Koh Tao
Café del Sol opened in 1999 as the first French restaurant on Koh Tao, and it has held its place on the island ever since. Located in Mae Haad, a short walk from the main pier, it’s one of the most established dining addresses on the island and one of the few that has remained in the same spot for over two decades.
The kitchen blends French and Italian influences, with a menu that runs from breakfast through to dinner. Fresh baguettes and butter or chocolate croissants come out of the in-house bakery every morning. The lunch and dinner menu covers pizzas with a crispy homemade base, pastas, steaks, grilled fish, lamb chops, burgers and a full range of salads, alongside a children’s menu for families. Almost everything is made from scratch, including produce from the restaurant’s own organic vegetable garden.
The wine list offers red, white and rosé by the bottle, alongside local beers, spirits and soft drinks. The setting is open, spacious and comfortable, recently renovated, with both dine-in and takeaway available.
For travellers arriving or leaving via Mae Haad pier, Café del Sol is a natural first or last stop on Koh Tao. For everyone else, it’s a reliable destination for European cuisine in a quieter part of the island.
